Evaluating

Whew…a busy term is over. The new young faces in your units have become identities and you can confidently go to Brownies remembering everyone's name…now it's time to work on the names of their parents! You've no doubt had an enrolment ceremony, and elected Sixers and Seconders. You're back on the treadmill. So now you have time to catch your breath before launching into your next term.

So big breath in and take a moment or two to evaluate:

Numbers: can you take more Brownies in the unit? If so, try a bring a friend evening
Not enough leaders/Support Team? Time to have a Mother/Father evening or District event
Are you prepared? Do you have your First Aid certificate, have you sufficient parent helpers to keep your adult/child ratio as per Guide to Guiding, do you have access to a phone in your unit or carry a mobile phone?
Ready to take a camp? Time to ensure that you have your Residential Camp Certificate and keep your ears to the ground to find helpers who will assist you with cooking, first aid, etc.
Training: ensure that you and your fellow leaders have been to trainings - minimum attendance is one training per year….and yes they are counted!
Records: are they up to date?
Programme Plan: is it varied, have the girls contributed their ideas?
Embrace the challenge: take on something that is new to you and new to the girls - doing things together and learning together combines fun and excitement
What unit activities worked well and why?

Assuming that you have drawn breath and are not in need of cardiac resuscitation, I would like you now to exhale and think of what you have gained as a leader and your growth as an individual and what you have learned and can share with others.
