Poetry
There was a competition held at the dinner to finish the following poem. The judges were unable to decide between Hobson & Epsom districts "winning lines". For those who were unable to attend, the following is the original ten line poem and the two winners "finishing lines".
Twas the week after Christmas
And all round the bach
Not a possum was stirring
Not one we could catch!
The guiders were resting, all snug on sun beds
While visions of trefoils danced in their hands;
And Anita in aqua and Jan in blue cap
Had just settled down for a long summer nap.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter
"Oh no", said Anita "what ever's the matter?"...
Over the horizon on a puff of smoke
Appeared two Scouters, in heels and a cloak
"Oh my", shrieked Anita "quick, give them a patch
The one about fishing and what a good catch".
"It's the Pippins" Jan shrieked "Their popovers have shrunk.
Don't tell Brown Owl or she'll have a blue funk"
"Quick, make a replacement out of plastic and glitter
and decorate the front with some kitty litter".
Then came the Brownies, all of a quiver
Having just cooked themselves some kidney and liver.
The Guides followed fast with smiles on their faces
What had they been doing in the smallest of spaces?
The Rangers had vanished without a trace
They couldn't be found after the 3-legged race
Had they discovered boys, Oh no! What a thought?
But the reality was worse - just look what they've caught …….
Created by Hobson District
Tom Cruise and his scouts have kidnapped a Guide
And in the lats they have forced her to hide.
The Leaders all swooned at the sight of Tom's knees-
Never noticed the Guide, who has gone with the breeze!
So Anita jumped up with a hiss and a roar-
"Come on Tom - lets get on the floor!
Ignore the Scouts and all their row
The Guide is o.k. in the lats for now."
So to the floor Anita and Tom did go -
And play 4 games of Twister in a row!
