Guide Cookout 2005

11 am till 2 pm
ALL patrols welcome - no need to run unit or district competitions.
Guide uniform suitable for the weather to be worn.
This is a pots and pans cookout, food to be cooked using billies or frypans.
A balanced 2 course meal is required (both courses cooked) -
each patrol to choose whatever food they want to cook.
Judges will be looking for originality and food preparation on site.

Challenge yourselves to light your fire without newspaper.
Try homemade firestarters made from egg cartons and wax or just use 'punk'.
Turfing will be required. All food and equipment to be brought by the patrol.
Girl's wishing to be assessed for their Camp Cook Badge should also fill in that form.

Judging Criteria
- A balanced nutritional meal.
- Originality in what and how it is cooked.
- A budget of what the meal cost (even if items are brought from home they can still be costed out).
- A written/typed out menu including recipes.
- Good teamwork and participation by all.
- Timing (all the food should be ready around the same time, with sufficient time for cleaning up).
- Food preparation on site.
- Serving, presentation, grace & manners.
- Attention to hygiene.
- Cleaning up during and afterwards.
- Safety of work area.
- Adequate fireplace - good size & stable.
- A woodpile, graded & sheltered, (not messily in boxes and bags), and enough wood of the right size to complete the cookout.
- Water bucket - can be used for both fire & hands.
- Other equipment, eg. 1st aid kit (each patrol should have its own equipment and firewood and not be sharing with others).
- Uniform - tidy, right colour, hats and sunscreen and raincoats, long hair tied back, no open toed or slip-on shoes.
- Courtesy to each other & testers.
- Apparent enjoyment of whole exercise.
Leaders and parents will be asked to stay off the field during the competition.
