International News

GlobeIt's been great to see Aucklanders heading off to overseas events recently. Here are reports from two young leaders who have been overseas to Guiding events.

International Opportunities

A Trip to Our Chalet

Gold 2004 in Thailand

Most of the information about overseas opportunities is received by email and is forwarded to Advisers and district coordinators to forward on.

The application process is quite simple. The application form asks you about your background both in and out of Guiding and then asks you to write a pen portrait about why you want to go the event you are applying for. After we receive the forms, you attend a meeting with your District Coordinator, someone from regional level and the International Adviser (me). The meeting is for all of us to meet you and get to know a little about you and to determine if you would be suitable for the event and a good representative of your district and the region. In respect of the funding, did you know that for many of the events, Guides New Zealand is able to provide a subsidy? In addition, Guides Auckland has an international travel fund.

Fundraising is more fun when there are several of you from one area working towards one goal, and when you have the support of your district and region. So grab a Guiding friend and apply for the same event.

C’mon Auckland – let’s give international Guiding a go.
