Water Sports

Have the girls come in their togs with a towel and a change of clothes. Prepare a number of games or supply the ideas to patrols and have them organise a couple each. Senior girls working for Leadership Certificate could use this opportunity to teach new games.

Fire Fighter (pairs or teams)

Equipment: candles, matches and water pistols or squeezee bottles.
Each player tries to extinguish a lit candle using a water pistol. Try variations on this, eg against the clock, with competing teams or any way that provides fun and challenge. Have spare candles ready lit to keep the game flowing.

Water Obstacle (equal teams)

Equipment: plastic mug with handle, a jug of water, tough string and a bucket.
An obstacle course is set up using tables, chairs, planks and trees and the string is laid along the length of the course, secured at both ends to tent pegs or fixtures after being threaded through the handle of the mug. The string should thread over, under and through the obstacles. The first player of one team fills the mug with water and completes the obstacle course, mug in hand. The remaining water in the mug is emptied into the bucket to be measured later and the player must run back through the course (with the mug) to set the second player off. When each player has had a turn, the water collected is measured and team two has a go.

Corko(equal teams)

Equipment: a cork, plastic dish-washing liquid bottle and water.
Teams line up in relay formation with the first in each line holding the water bottle, with the cork lying on the ground. First players must propel their corks to a given point (about 5m away) by squirty water at the cork. As the player reaches the agreed point, she must pick up the cork and run back to her team to start the next player off. Speed up the game by having two bottles, one being filled while the other is in use.

Chin Pass (equal teams)

Equipment: a sponge and two containers of water for each team.
Teams line up in relay form, with the wet sponge at one end. On the word "Go", the sponge is placed under the chin of Player 1 and then passed to Player 2 who must only use her chin to grab the sponge - hands are not permitted. The sponge continues down the line until it gets back to the last person. The sponge is then passed back up the line. First team to finish wins.

Be inventive, make up your own or get the girls to create some new ones AND HAVE FUN!!
