Walk for the World 2006
Walk for the World is a fun event for girls and leaders of all ages. Choose a route to match your walking ability, arrange some sponsors and come celebrate Thinking Day with us at the Michael Joseph Savage Memorial on the Waterfront. The three routes have varying starting times in the endeavour to have everyone arrive at the park by 12 noon. Once at the park there will be a half hour ceremony for Thinking Day and Walk for the World.
Funds raised will be split equally between UNICEF's Child Friendly School Project in the Solomon Islands, the objective of which is to to girls from poor and remote areas an education, and WAGGGS.
Route 1 Beginning at Glover Park at 10:30am, this walk is approximately 4km long. We will walk from Glover Park along Tamaki Drive to Hapimana St, where we will walk up to the MJ Savage Memorial Park. (Guides leaders please note, this can be considered one of the "fun" hikes from Adv. Outdoors Sec B #4)
Route 2 Beginning at Kepa Bush Reserve behind Eastridge Shopping Centre at 11am, this walk is approximately 3km long. We will walk from the reserve, along Patteson Avenue to Tamaki Drive, along Tamaki Drive to Hapimana St, where we will walk up to the MJ Savage Memorial Park.
Route 3 Beginning at the car park in the Orakei Domain at 11:30am, this walk is approximate 2km long. We will walk from the Domain down Watene Cres, along Tamaki Drive to Hapimana St, where we will walk up to the MJ Savage Memorial
